Resolutions – Review of 2016’s Resolutions & Setting 2017’s
I seem to have started a tradition of posting my new year resolutions, so I’m going to continue this with my 2017 resolutions. But before you get the 2017 resolutions I think we should look at how well I’ve done on the 2016 resolutions.
2016 Resolutions
There were three of these posted on 1 Jan 2016.
- Read 40 books, at least half on paper
- Write
- Lose weight
2016 Reading
According to my Goodreads tracker I’ve read 47 books this year. I think that I might have missed one or two off, but it’s certainly more than the original 40. Also I counted 26 that I read in hard copy. This was slightly easier because I’ve not been carrying my Kindle around with me. A lot of the reading has been at home or on holiday.
Resolution exceeded!
Writing
I said I would write a little less so that I could focus on editing. I’m afraid that I’ve not kept this resolution. As well as over 70 blog posts I’ve outlined three novels, and written a fourth. I’ve also got a plan for a nonfiction book about the military aftermath of the so-called Glorious Revolution in 1688. Britain’s last successful armed rebellion. There were a couple of short stories and a poem or two as well.
Lose weight
I set myself a target of being under 12 stone in weight by the end of 2016. While I lost a little I didn’t lose anywhere near enough to meet that ambition. I was safely under 13 stone before Christmas, but I fear that I’ve put on a bit over the festivities.
2017 Resolutions
I have a few 2017 resolutions.
- Finish my Open University degree (in June if I pass both courses)
- Design a megagame (1689, in the latter half of the year)
- Write 50 blog posts, edit Perfects and Noren, write another novel (probably NaNoWriMo 2017) and a history book
- Get my weight into the 12 – 12.5 stone range and keep it there.
The resolution on writing needs some explanation. I’m going to step back from trying to blog three times a week. It takes a lot of effort and I’d like to expend that on other things. But I’d like to try and maintain a weekly blog, probably on Wednesday evenings.
How do you make time to do this? My life is so full at home with all the house things, being a mum and going to work full time that I have little time left to focus on me. I don’t know how you do it!
I spend hours on trains, more now than I used to.
