You need computer names these days. I’ve had several over the years, here are the computer names that I’ve used. All of my computers, and many of my other electronic devices, have been named after characters from 2000AD stories.

Rogue laptop 2006 – October 2013 Advent 7110Celeron 1.7GHz, 1Gb RAM, 80Gb hard disk Originally Windows Vista, now Ubuntu 10.04.2 Still use alongside ace-garp when we need either a bigger screen, two machines on the road or a CD burned. Until it the screen broke.
sternhammer PC 2008-2011 IBM Netfix PIII 800MHz, 512Mb RAM, 750Gb HD space Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Bought second hand from ebay for £25 (incl postage). Runs as a LAMP server plus mailman. Has several disks, including DVD burner.
digriz PC 2009 – 2011 Dell GX280, P4 2.8GHz, 1Gb RAM, 40Gb hard disk Ubuntu 10.10 Main desktop but used less than the mobile machines. Bought from ebay for £50 incl postage.
ace-garp netbook Aug 2009 – current Acer Aspire One D150, dual thread 1.7 GHz N280, 1Gb RAM, 160Gb hard disk Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition My main computer
middenface PC 12 March 2011 – April 2016 Acer Revo R3700, quad thread 1.8GHz, 2Gb RAM, 500Gb HD Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Runs as a LAMP server, also with mailman. Replaced sternhammer. Decommissioned when I put everything in a linode.com cloud server (named doghouse)
ninja-cole laptop 24 October 2012 – Sept 2018 Lenovo Thinkpad T61, Centrino Duo 1.8GHz, 3Gb RAM, 120Gb HD MS Windows Vista Business (64 bit) Acquired to run Mathcad 14 for an Open University course that needed a Windows machine. Named by Alexander and given to him in October 2013.
armitage laptop October 2013 – January 2016 Samsung Q320, Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00GHz × 2, 3Gb RAM, 320Gb HD Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (main). dual booted MS Windows Vista Business (both 64 bit) An ebay special, £30 because the CD didn’t work. I later spilled coffee on it and some of the keyboard keys wouldn’t work, including ? / [ { and the right arrow key.
orlok laptop 22 January 2016 – current Lenovo Thinkpad T420, Pentium i5 1.8GHz, 4Gb RAM, 320Gb HD Ubuntu 18.04 (64 bit) Acquired from ebay, £75 because it came with no OS and a BIOS password. Replacement for Armitage.
doghouse linode cloud instance 10 April 2016 – current virtual server. Linode 2GB: 1 CPU, 50GB Storage, 2GB RAM Ubuntu 18.04 (64 bit) (LTS) A cloud instance from Linode.com which runs this website, and several others.
