Onward to 2022!
Me in Glasgow Central for a work trip in November 2021. (Photo: James Kemp) I'm carrying on a theme for my blog, of at least one post reflecting and looking forward every new year, and for once I'm keen that we move onward to 2022 and what it will bring! At the tail end of 2020 I made a few suggestions for 2021 (I didn't go as far as labelling them resolutions, for reasons I explained in last year's post). Always make sure that there is something to look forward to. Keep the scale of ambition realistic (given what I know I can control) Keep up the exercise/activity. Make the most of the situation, whatever it is. Reflections on 2021 Despite everything 2021 has been a good year for my family and me. Looking back through my pictures we've had…
On Resolutions, 2020 and 2021
For a number of years I've posted new year's resolutions on the Themself, along with reflections on how I've got on with them. I didn't do that last year, even though I was sure that I had. Making Resolutions There's been a theme to previous resolutions, they've covered reading, writing and being healthier. The theme is about being a better person, although there's a level of subjectivity about what constitutes 'better'. On the whole being happier with who I am is probably the thing I should have 'm not going to make retrospective resolutions for 2020, the whole point of making new year resolutions is setting yourself some aspirations for the future. As I write 2020 is a few days from being history. Thankfully. Reflections on 2020 Global pandemic and massive recession aside, things haven't been all bad about 2020.…
2019 Resolutions
A new year's resolution postcard from 1915 Posting my 2019 Resolutions has become a bit of a tradition. I first posted my New Year's Resolutions in 2015, and I've done it every year since. My 2019 Resolutions Here's the executive summary. I've unpacked my 2019 resolutions and made them measurable in the sections below. Look after myself physically (exercise more & eat well) Be aware of my mental well-being and take steps to improve it (re-charge time, and reflection) Finish building the barbecue by the end of April Keep writing (blogs, stories and other things) Keep reading (more…)
2018 Resolutions Revisited
As in previous years I've posted some New Year Resolutions on my blog. Given it's the end of the year I thought I ought to revisit them. 2018 Resolutions I have a few 2018 resolutions, they’re all a little lower key than the 2017 ones. Read 40 books over the course of the year (I managed 27 in 2017, but have read more in previous years) Design a megagame (finishing what I started) Write 50 blog posts, edit Perfects and publish it Get my weight under 13 stone and keep it there. Read 40 Books I haven't done this, my Goodreads profile shows that I've fallen short by 1 book, 135 pages to be exact. That's an improvement on last year, but still not the forty I set as a target. One thing I've realised is that progress depends on…
2018 Resolutions
English: New Year's Resolutions postcard (Photo credit: Wikipedia) I have been posting my new year resolutions in the blog for the past four years, so I'm going to continue this with my 2018 resolutions. But before my 2018 resolutions I think we should look at how well I've done on the 2017 resolutions. 2017 Resolutions I had a few 2017 resolutions. However I must have been feeling overly optimistic in January 2017! Here they are: Finish my Open University degree (in June if I pass both courses) Design a megagame (1689, in the latter half of the year) Write 50 blog posts, edit Perfects and Noren, write another novel (probably NaNoWriMo 2017) and a history book Get my weight into the 12 - stone range and keep it there. Finish my Degree I did this, it was a lot of…
